Petros, the Pelican the symbol of Mykonos

Anyone who has been in Mykonos, or has taken information about the place, will surely have heard of the island's mascot: Petros the Pelican. After settling on the waterfront after a terrible storm that struck the "little Venice" in 1954, Petros the Pelican remained in Mykonos for over 30 years. Beloved and looked after by the islanders, it was decided that the tradition of the Pelican were to continue beyond his death and so they welcomed another pelican that today, on the predecessor's footsteps, strolls around the narrow streets of Mykonos. Petros the Pelican, immortalized in thousands of tourists’ pictures which in the course of the time have travelled all around the world, it’s still considered a real local celebrity.
